Today (June 1) the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delivered medicines, baby milk, vaccines and nutritional items for children to the besieged town of Daraya with the United Nations and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent.

The ICRC is hopeful that a second and crucial delivery of food will take place over the coming days.

Today’s aid does not meet the needs of people in Daraya. Nor will a one-time food delivery.

People in the besieged places in Syria need the regular access of humanitarian organisations who must be able to follow up on their specific needs.

The ICRC urges all parties to the conflict to allow us to carry out our humanitarian duties for the people who need our help.

Today's convoy to Daraya is a positive development but its success will depend on when and how often we will be able to return with more aid.
