Russian Federation: ICRC partners with Stenin photo contest to promote humanitarian values
Moscow (ICRC / MIA Rossiya Segodnya) – The world's biggest independent humanitarian organization, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), will be partnering with the Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest in 2017. In agreement with the Rossiya Segodnya international news agency, which organizes the contest, the ICRC will present two awards for the best humanitarian photos in the Top News category.
"Today we live in a world where images are an integral part of daily life," said Magne Barth, the head of the ICRC's regional delegation in Moscow. "New technologies allow us to share information – including pictures – instantly across the globe. From our work helping people in need in zones of armed conflict, we know how important it is to show the reality of the victims' lives and the efforts of those trying to alleviate their suffering. That's why we have decided to support young photographers, many of whom are already working in dangerous circumstances, and to give special recognition to humanitarian photography in order to highlight its important role in making people think about and adopt humanitarian values."
Entries for the contest should be submitted by young photojournalists aged between 18 and 34 on the contest website by 22 March 2017. Pictures are accepted in the following categories: Top News, Sports, My Planet, and Portrait: A Hero of Our Time. The contest is organized by the Rossiya Segodnya under the auspices of Russia's Commission for UNESCO.
